Disturbing the Peas is Ed Hyp and Maggie Matela. They met playing basketball at an abandoned Bally’s Total Fitness in Pittsburgh. Ed is prone to thinking up imaginary restaurants and Maggie doesn’t like to to have her sandwiches shown up.

After getting a house with the potential of commercial zoning in 2012, they decided to open a deli on their first floor in the Little Italy of Pittsburgh, PA. They bring to the table a passion for precision and innovation, and an understanding of balance and tradition. Using all that technology has to offer, they are looking to implement modern cooking techniques in an accessible way.

This blog documents their progress as they start their first small business, renovate a 130 year old row house, and explore the changing culture of modern cooking.
